Curriculum for Wales

A new curriculum for Wales

This is an exciting time for the young people of Wales. A new Curriculum for Wales is coming that will enthuse learners from 3 to 16, giving them the foundations they need to succeed in a changing world.

Curriculum for Wales

The Welsh Government have developed an exciting new curriculum that aims to create a successful and exciting future for all the children and young people of Wales.

The new curriculum has been developed with the intention of creating students who are;

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

These four purposes of the new curriculum will form the basis for all future decisions about national and local educational priorities, and underpin all teaching and learning in Wales.

The new curriculum for 3 to 16-year-olds has been organised into six Areas of Learning and Experience to ensure a broad educational experience for all children and young people. Literacy, numeracy and digital competence are so important to thinking, learning and life that they will be developed and strengthened across the whole curriculum alongside opportunities to develop wider skills and Cwricwlwm Cymreig.

At Ysgol Gronant, we are already beginning to prepare for this exciting new curriculum, by embedding aspects into our current curriculum practise.
